About

Marti J. Smith is a Jeffco resident who has lived in Colorado since 1985. Marti’s spouse Mag, and Max Fund dog, Gunther enjoy the beauty of the Jefferson County Open Space, often seen walking along the many trails afforded in Jefferson County. They also enjoy biking and hiking, or engaging in one of the many festivals or activities throughout the county, from open air concerts to multi-cultural celebrations.

Marti’s career is marked by successes in both Coors Brewing and Coors Ceramics, as well as US WEST Communications. Marti led the recognizable Coors Light “Silver Bullet” campaign with her team to move the brand from number five to number three in the competitive beer wars. She also developed the “Life’s Better Here” brand campaign at US West that was designed to improve internal communications between management and the employees, as well as signifying to clients they could get the type of service they needed to enjoy their personal or business products and services. On the way Marti has managed multi-million dollar budgets, oversight for construction and operation of a Coors Ceramics, award-winning manufacturing plant and most recently managed her own small business marketing consulting firm.

Early on in her career Marti began with four years as a public school teacher and coach, which embedded a strong avocation for children’s safety and well-being in several non-profit board positions, and 14 years as a volunteer at The Action Center helping families maintain self-sufficiency and regain hope for a stable future. As a major animal advocate, Marti took a diversion from her corporate career for five years to  lead the 30,000 member International Arabian Horse Association dedicated to the ownership of both Arabian and half Arabian breeds.

Marti’s  college education began in her home state of MIchigan at Western Michigan University with a BS in education and communications. While in Colorado, Marti earned an MA in psychology (with high honors), and all but dissertation for a PhD in clinical psychology from Capella University in Minnesota. Marti is a strong supporter of community college education, and has served as a consultant to Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood.
